Reykjavik Design Laboratory recently received their first ADC*E Nomination for their work Filmund Reel for RIFF, Reykjavik International Film Festival 2011.

Created for the Reykjavik international Film Festival in 2011, Filmund Reel is the festival’s fan nr. 1. He lives and breathes films, to the extent that his very body is made of film strips salvaged from one of the oldest running film theatres in Iceland.

Filmund is not meant to be a mascot, but represent the fantastical film enthusiast in all of us. Through persistence and extreme patience he battles the Icelandic fall to get to RIFF, ignoring the beating weather and the drastically dropping temperature. The same goes for other festivals. He’s on the road over 300 days a year, visiting every single film festival there is to visit, viewing every single film screened, no matter how obscure or remote the venue might be.

Filmund Reel is the creation of Reykjavík Design Laboratory, which consists of Geir Ólafsson, Hörður Ellert Ólafsson, Jón Ingi Einarsson, Magnús Wolfgang Hreggviðsson, Tryggvi Gunnarsson, and Þorleifur Gunnar Gíslason.

You will find the project on Behance here.
