The most important design fund supporting Icelandic design, Aurora allocated 6.5 million ISK to design projects last Tuesday. This time, special emphasis was put on the research phase of the design process. “Carefully performed research is an important part of the design process and essential for successful outcomes”, the board stated.

 

The 7 designers and design teams receiving grants are:

  • Fashion label Ostwald Helgason to partake in New York Fashion Week in spring 2013.
  • Design gallery Spark design space to document designers and works featured in its program so far.
  • Graphic designers Snæfríð Þorsteins and Hildigunnur Gunnarsdóttir to continue R&D for their project Textasíða.
  • Graphic designer Ármann Agnarsson to continue research work related to Gísli B. Björnsson, whose retrospective is currently on display at the Museum of Design and Applied Art.
  • Architect Guðni Valberg and historian Anna Dröfn Magnúsdóttir to work on a book on architecture.
  • Textile designer Guðrún Eysteinsdóttir to do an internship at Center for Advanced Textiles (CAT) í Glasgow, Skotlandi.
  • Fashion designer Hildigunnur Sigurðardóttir to intern at Roland Mouret.
