Happy first Advent, everybody!

December 1st marks the start of our annual Christmas calendar. Every day up until the 24th, we will ask our friends – designers, curators, architects and other wonderful folks – to answer the following question:

“Which Icelandic designer/architect would you like to receive a Christmas present from? What would that gift be?”

The chosen designer/architect will then be the next one to answer.

To celebrate the brand new Icelandic Design Award, we wanted to start with Karna Sigurðardóttir, who co-curated the winning project “Designs From Nowhere“.

Karna wrote this beautiful letter to (an Icelandic speaking) Santa, in which she wishes for a gift from product designer Brynjar Sigurdarson.

Karna writes beautifully,

“On top of my wish list

I want to put Brynjar’s Sigurðarson’s next piece.

The unborn idea, the seed in the ground.

Thus I know it will be filled with unexpected fog,
warmth, silence, craftsmanship, dedication,
mixed inside joy and sound –
as the author himself.

Maybe he’s an elf himself,
Explorer rather than designer…”

What an amazing wish to kick off our calendar with! You will see the designer-elf Sigurðarson below along with samples of his previous work.

Read more about Brynjar’s project Silent Village here.

Thank you so much Karna!  Until tomorrow and Brynjar’s wish.
