DesignMarch starts next week – hooray, hooray, hooray!

The exhibition Water and Earth opens in the Nordic house, featuring works by five Finnish and five Icelandic jewelry designers.
One of the partaking designers is Orr, we hope you like their work! Orr is the jeweller duo Ástþór Helgason and Kjartan Örn Kjartansson.

Ástþór Helgason worked metal for the first time with his uncle Þór at the tender age of 12, and began jewellery studies at the
age of 19. Kjartan Örn Kjartansson grew up in Akureyri, in northern Iceland, and studied to be a goldsmith at Jens in Reykjavik.
In 2000, they founded Orr, where they have since worked.

From the start, Helgason and Kjartansson have been trailblazers. Their designs are bold and creative. The majority of Orr’s production consists of handmade custom pieces. Even in those cases where several pieces are created from the same design, each is slightly different.

The works emerge out of continuous dialogue between the designers. They have different personalities, but share a predilection for tremendous amounts of hard work. Design, experimentation, and production all take place at the Orr workshops, in the heart of downtown Reykjavik. The workshop is full of tools, materials (primarily silver, gold, white gold, and platinum), creative energy, and bustling ambiance. The workspace creates an interesting contrast to the serene minimalist retail space upstairs, where the finished products are displayed.
