There is not much that I can say about In The Gray Area that has not been covered elsewhere, so I guess what I want to say is that I know it’s hard to choose from the abundance of wonders on offer this week*, and this one isn’t in the centre of town but if you asked me for one thing you should go to, I would ask you to please, please, please do not miss this exhibition.

Now I am going to tell you exactly how to get there so you have no more excuses:

How to get there:

Take the bus to Ásgarður (Garðabær) from Hlemmur station or Lækjartorg bus stop (close to the pond). It costs 350kr for a one way ticket and don’t forget to ask for Skiptimiði (change ticket), you disembark by the station next to the tower.
The Design museum says Hönnunarsafn Íslands on it. It is approximately a 25 min ride.

Everything you need to know is at the Strætó website.

Also, on the entrance to the Shoplifter exhibition you will walk through Gunnar Magnussin’s Furniture for the Home on display. The furniture was from ’61 to ’78 and I was really taken by the colours and fabrics of a bygone era.
We made little photo series:

Also don’t miss the famous Bobby Fischer vs Boris Spassky chess table, which is tucked in the corner by the entrance. The table is a piece of history, it was the scene of the famous 1972″Cold War Battle Chess Game, of which Fischer emerged victorious.

If you want to know more about Bobby Fischer, including tales of incarceration, Icelandic passports, alleged half-Philipino love children and postmortem exhumation, read about it here. Fascinating.
