Yesterday was a big day, and ATTIKATTI was last on our list. It was getting cold, our steps were slow, the tripod was heavier than ever before. We spotted the DesignMarch poster in the window, and trudged up the driveway, where we found Rúna in the backyard with the chickens.
WHAT?
Yep, I’m serious.

ATTIKATTI´s theme for DesignMarch is Settlement, and so it is appropriate that the white chicken is a settler himself, having sailed to Iceland in his boat fashioned from sheets of plastic in primary colours. The boat is also on display in the yard. The little brown hen is his exchange student from China, and we are happy to welcome her.

This handsome fellow was another applicant for the exchange program. He is Australian, he was unsuccessful this time around, but never say never. Inside their toasty warm studio we met Hanna and Lilja, who offered us snacks and coffee but warned not to eat the chicken wings on the bench because “When we came inside this morning the chickens were walking around on the chicken.” True story.

They showed us the various weaponry and settlement tools they had made for hand to hand combat. We loved the helmets and reindeer antler jewelery. My favourite was a portable table that one can take to a garden party, and simply stake into the ground to rest your beers on. When the party is over you need never worry about wandering the streets by yourself as the table doubles as a hefty sword for any potential StrangerDanger.

They also let me play around with their incredible musical instruments. These instruments are so gorgeous, we would love to film them in a studio sometime. There is one that clacks and purrs when you stroke it like a cat, a beautiful woodblock, an egg which makes different shimmering sounds whichever way you move it and my favourite; an angular object with rain and bells inside.

We want to thank ATTIKATTI for being so cool and hospitable and generally awesome. They are open today, so you should get down to their studio because it is crammed full of fun*.
