After hanging out in Kraum for the Folkloric Jewels exhibition, (which was pretty cool), we were going to nip upstairs and quickly see a bit of the RainDear exhibition. When we got up there, it took us a little while to figure out what was going on. On our second lap of the room we starting to say “that’s actually pretty cool”, on our fourth someone exclaimed something to the effect of “this is actually really awesome”, and so on. The fashion designer Heiða Eiríksdóttir and the product and textiles designer Þorbjörg Valdimarsdóttir have taken silks and wools and laminated them in an innovative way of reworking traditional fabrics. They are taking Icelandic fashion in a new and original direction and we applaud them for it.

While we were filming Þorbjörg Valdimarsdóttir came up and spoke to us, we really enjoyed talking to her. The pieces were displayed in a bright space with natural light, this was the first time we saw well lit fashion at the DesignMarch*. The longer we stayed there it just got better and better, and by the time we left we were singing her praises all the way down Aðalstræti.
She will be at RFF, make sure to see her there!

*Victor also mentioned that the mannequins were sexy. This produced a stunned and confused silence from Karna and I. We’re still not sure what to make of that.

** He just read the blog and tried to justify himself by saying “Well, they’re so european. Look at their elvin eyes.” We cracked up. He’s just making it worse.
